of diagnosis, determining the type of dysfunction and the
therapeutic strategies. Non-pharmacological treatment strategies
are recommended as initial treatment. For those with OAB,
anticholinergic drugs may be an option while pharmacological
therapy has a limited role in the treatment of detrusor areflexia.
Rarely, surgical intervention could offer beneficial effects. An
algorithmic approach (Fig. 1) and careful patient selection for
treatment is recommended.
